Rein vs. Reign. FATALITY!

The next time I see "take the reigns" or that a subject "has free reign" in print, I will have to slap the writer.

I mean, theoretically "free reign" COULD be correct. But it's NOT.

You take the reins and are given free rein. OK?

Yes, in the latter case, it means you're being compared to a horse. Deal.
